Description
Fiebing’s Acrylic Resolene is a flexible, durable, and water-resistant acrylic finish designed to seal and protect smooth leather surfaces. It is the most widely used top-coat in the leatherworking industry for protecting projects from dirt, moisture, and daily wear and tear.
Once applied, the liquid cures into a thin, pigmented acrylic layer that provides a medium to high gloss finish. It is especially effective as a sealant over dyed leathers to prevent the color from rubbing off on clothing or furniture. The formula is water-based, consisting of roughly 74% water and 24% acrylic, and is available in Neutral (clear), Black, and Brown.
Key Product Highlights
-
Water & Scratch Resistant: Provides a synthetic barrier that shields leather from moisture, stains, and light scratches.
-
Flexible Finish: The coating is engineered to move and bend with the leather, preventing it from cracking or peeling over time.
-
No Color Change: The Neutral version is designed to be transparent when dry, ensuring the leather’s natural or dyed color is not altered.
-
Professional Aesthetics: Dries to a “mellow” to high-gloss shine that gives leather goods a polished, high-end appearance.
-
Versatile Application: Can be applied using a variety of tools, including a damp sponge, wool dauber, or even a spray gun for larger surfaces.
Application & Directions
-
Preparation: Clean the leather surface thoroughly to remove any dirt or residue.
-
Application: Apply the Resolene in light, even coats using a damp sponge or soft cloth. It may appear bluish when wet but will dry completely clear.
-
Drying: For a perfect result, allow each coat to dry completely before applying additional layers for more shine. It is recommended to let the project dry overnight for a full cure.
-
Buffing: Once dry, buff the surface with a soft cloth or sheep’s wool to achieve the final desired gloss level.
