Description
Dykem Steel Blue Layout Fluid is a specialized marking dye used to coat metal surfaces with a uniform, glare-free color. It is primarily used by machinists and fabricators to provide a high-contrast background so that scribed lines appear sharp, clear, and extremely precise.
The fluid forms an incredibly thin, flexible film (approximately 5–15 microns) that adds virtually no thickness to the workpiece. This film is engineered to resist cracking, chipping, or flaking, even under the heat and lubricants of heavy machining. Its fast-drying formula typically cures within minutes, allowing users to begin layout work almost immediately.
Key Product Highlights
-
High Contrast Visibility: The deep “Steel Blue” color provides excellent visibility and reduces eye strain by eliminating glare on shiny metal.
-
Brush-In-Cap Design: Features a convenient applicator brush built directly into the screw-on cap, ensuring the brush is always ready and preventing spills.
-
Professional Grade: Resistant to machine coolants and cutting oils once dry.
-
Versatile Use: Beyond marking, it is used to reveal surface defects (pinholes) and to inspect gear tooth contact patterns.
-
Safe Removal: Can be easily removed using DYKEM Remover & Cleaner or organic solvents like acetone.
Application & Directions
-
Prep: Ensure the metal surface is clean and free of oils or grease.
-
Apply: Use the built-in brush to apply a uniform, thin film across the desired area.
-
Dry: Allow the fluid to dry for 2–5 minutes until it forms a dull, non-reflective finish.
-
Scribe: Use a scriber or sharp tool to mark your layout lines directly onto the blue coating.
