There are several common properties of BOROSILICATE GLASS that you will see are very similar to normal glass, but you will also notice how unique and different they are at the same time. With a temperature range expanding from 572° F all the way down to -40° F, this glass is both heat resistant and cold proof (as well as freeze-proof). While it can withstand being heated up on your stovetop or in the microwave, this lab-grade borosilicate glass cannot be placed into an oven, under a broiler, or in any water bath. Also – because borosilicate glass has a very high shock resistance – it works well for cooking with extremely high temperatures while not having to worry about it cracking. Can You Scratch Borosilicate Glass?
When cleaning borosilicate glassware use a soft bristle brush with either a wooden or plastic handle to avoid scratching or unnecessary abrasions. Make sure you also reach into cracks, curves and groves to get rinsing done quickly and thoroughly. Avoid using hydrofluoric acid on your borosilicate glass as it is highly corrosive and can cause irreparable damage if exposed to the material for extended periods of time without protection and sanitization. Stronger alkali soaps and acids should also be avoided as they will wear away at your glass over time leaving it cloudy and dull in color.
